Scottish agency Murray Travel is to operate flights to Tenerife for the first time out of Inverness Airport as it brings back direct winter-sun charters for the Canary Islands for 2027.
The expanded programme of flight packages comes on the back of the agency’s first five-week programme out of Inverness to Gran Canaria this year.
For 2027, flights will run for one week to Gran Canaria followed by a new five-week programme of flights to Tenerife South, all out of Inverness Airport.
The flights will operate under the agency’s inhouse tour operation MT Holidays on Fridays, which the company cited as a particularly popular flying day for families travelling in the school holidays. Previously flights were on a Tuesday.
The Gran Canaria flight is on March 19, 2027, returning the following Friday, while flights to Tenerife South start on March 26, 2027, and include the 2027 school Easter holidays.
Tenerife is described as a “major development” for the tour operation. The Atol protected packages include direct flights, accommodation across the island, return transfers, and local reps. The operator has a range of hotels and resorts for families and couples, and those looking for a longer break.
Murray Travel owner Scott Murray said: “Bringing Gran Canaria to Inverness was a huge milestone for us, and the response from local customers showed just how much demand there is for direct sunshine holidays from the Highlands.
“For 2027, we are really pleased to confirm that Gran Canaria will return for one week, before we then move into an extended Tenerife programme from Inverness.
“Tenerife is one of the most popular destinations in the Canary Islands, and being able to offer five weeks of direct flights to Tenerife South, including the Easter school holidays, is something we know will be incredibly well received by local families and holidaymakers.”
He added: “This is exactly why we created MT Holidays. We want to make travel easier, more convenient and more exciting for people in the Highlands, while keeping everything personal, protected and locally managed.”
The company said it was committed to developing Inverness Airport as a gateway for leisure travel and giving customers options that reduce the need to travel via other airports such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, or Aberdeen.
Dan Mason, Inverness Airport manager, said the airport valued its relationship with the local company to bring more choice of flights and holidays to the area.
Mason said: “We’re really excited to have Tenerife as a new destination from Inverness for 2027, marking an exciting addition for passengers looking for direct sunshine breaks.
“This follows the success of our first year supporting Canary Islands holidays with Murray Travel, which saw strong demand and clearly demonstrated the appetite for this type of travel from across the Highlands and Islands.”
The airport has worked with Murray Travel since 2025 when it introduced Lapland charters under its tour operating brand The Lapland Experience. These operate again in December 2026 out of six regional airports, including Inverness.
