A traveller was shocked when she was hit by the brutal reality of Singapore airport, which has been named the best airport in the world.

Jessica Jayne Turner is currently travelling across the world with her partner Jasper after they sold their house and quit their jobs to do so.

After noticing houseprices in their area rising, the couple decided to take the plunge and sell their house with a profit and taking the opportunity to travel together.

Having spent the last couple of years travelling across Europe and Asia, often staying at one place for a few weeks, the couple ended up in Singapore for a shorter visit after five weeks in Thailand.

As they were then continuing their travels elsewhere, Jessica wanted to take the opportunity to have a few extra hours in Singapore’s Changi Airport, as it’s been named one of the best airports in the world on multiple occations. However, things didn’t go as expected.

In a video published to TikTok, Jessica said: “When was someone gonna tell me that the famous waterfall at the Singapore airport isn’t on 24/7? So I arrived at the airport a couple of hours before our flight because I really wanted to go and see the waterfall.

“So we checked in our bags and then we headed into the jewel, which is where the giant waterfall is, and then it was in this moment that I realised the waterfall isnt even on.”

She went on to explain that the airport turns off the famous waterfall, the Jewel Rain Vortex, which has gone viral online, during the night and doesn’t come back on until 11am. The waterfall in question is over seven stories tall, making it the world’s tallest in-door waterfall. It’s on between 11am until 10pm on most days.

“We did get to see these trains go past though, which was pretty cool,” Jessica said.

The waterfall wasn’t the only thing that was closed in the morning. Having arrived at the airport at 8am, the couple quickly realised that most stores and restaurants in the airport doesn’t open until 11am either.

“It felt really empty so it was kind of creepy walking around here with nothing open. It sounds really dumb now, but I just assumed that everything at the airport in Singapore would be open 24 hours a day because there’re so many flights coming to and from Singapore Airport,” Jessica said in the video.

“But McDonalds was open, so we ended up getting some food in there. The airport itself does just feel so clean, so fancy, it’s just a really nice place.”

The couple were then seen hopping onto a new flight to continue their travels elsewhere.

The Express has reached out to Jessica for a comment.
