Move over, flying cars! This city of architectural marvels and audacious innovation, is about to take to the skies in a revolutionary new way. Partnering with Joby Aviation, a California-based air taxi startup, it will be home to the world’s first ever commercial flying taxi service by early 2026.

Imagine whisking across the Dubai skyline, not in a congested car, but in a sleek, electric flying taxi. Joby Aviation’s eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft promise a new era of urban mobility. These quiet, zero-emission vehicles can take off and land vertically, eliminating the need for long runways. With a top speed of 200 miles per hour and a maximum range of 150 miles, Joby’s high-tech vehicle can carry up to four passengers as well as a pilot.

According to reports, Joby has won a six-year exclusive agreement to operate its electric air-taxi services in Dubai and is planning commercial services by early 2026. However, if all goes well, that milestone may now be reached as soon as late 2025. Reports also suggest that the company plans to have four vertiports in central points across the city. These include Dubai International Airport, the man-made island of Palm Jumeirah, downtown Dubai near the Burj Khalifa tower, and the city’s marina. A journey from Dubai International to The Palm Jumeirah is expected to take only 10 minutes compared with 45 minutes by car.
And there are other eVTOL players in the mix. While Joby will operate air taxis within the city, Archer Aviation Inc will plan flights between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and across the UAE. The launch of the flying taxi service in Dubai will mark a significant milestone in the history of urban transportation. It paves the way for a future where on-demand air travel becomes a reality, transforming how we navigate our cities.
