Northumbria Police statement

At 4.31am this morning, Northumbria Police released the following statement:

“There is currently a road closure in place on Great North Road #Jesmond due to a collision. The B1318 in both directions from the junction of Blue House Roundabout to the 167M Central Motorway is expected to be closed until mid-morning. We’ll keep you updated when it reopens.”

Very slow traffic on Grandstand Road following ‘serious crash’

There now appears to be delays on Grandstand Road in Newcastle following the ‘crash on nearby Great North Road.

The dark red line on this AA map indicates very slow traffic.

Slow traffic on two North East roads

There is currently slow traffic on:

  • Gateshead: A1 Western Bypass Northbound around A167 Angel Of The North coming from Chester-le-Street.
  • Jarrow: A19 Northbound at the Tyne Tunnel. Travel time is five minutes.

Gaps in service on the Metro

There are gaps in service on the Green and Yellow Metro lines.

Customers have been urged to check the Pop app for the latest train times.

Location of crash

The crash has occurred on the Great North Road (B1318) near Blue House roundabout.

It has been closed between Forsyth Road and A189 Jesmond Dene Road (A189).

‘Serious crash’ first reported at 4.02am, says AA

AA has reported how the Great North Road is closed in both directions at Blue House roundabout due to a “serious crash”.

They say the crash was first reported at 4.02am today.

Newcastle road closed due to collision

Great North Road in Newcastle is closed in both directions.

This is due to serious accident between Forsyth Road and A189 Jesmond Dene Road (Blue House roundabout).
