Saiful Islam Shanto, a Bangladeshi hiker is going to start his world travel on foot.
He will begin his journey on Friday (March 22) in front of National Parliament Building.
The slogan of his mission is “Save Trees, Minimize Global Warming.”
Shanto revealed his travel plan on Wednesday at a press conference held at Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) auditorium in the capital.
Ashrafuzzaman Uzzal, president of Bangladesh Travel Writers Association, and Zakaria Mahmud Uchchhas , founder of ‘Hatahati’, a walkers’ group were present.
Noted athletes of the country also joined the program.
Saiful Islam Shanto will start his journey and will cover India, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, and the other countries of Asia.
He will then move to Africa and Europe. Then Shanto will travel to North America, South America, Australia and Antarctica.
Earlier, Shanto covered 64 districts of Bangladesh (approximately 3,000 km) on foot in 75 days in 2022.
He also completed Bangladesh-India walking challenge (Dhaka- Sandakhphu, Darjeeling) walking 1,500km in 64 days.
As the world is suffering for climate disaster, Shanto chose the theme of his world travel as “Save Trees, Minimize Global Warming.”
During his world tour he will convey this awareness message to the communities about fighting climate disaster.
Shanto’s travel will be supervised and monitored by Bangladesh Travel Writers Association and Hiker Society of Bangladesh.
