The Travel Network Group has bought escorted tour operator TS Travel and travel media company Tripsmiths out of administration.

Tripsmiths and TS Travel, which trades as TS Tours, will now operate under the new company name and business entity Tripsmiths Travel.

The companies, both members of the Travel Trust Association (TTA), a division of TTNG, entered administration on May 14. TTNG has subsequently bought the businesses and assets from administrators Moorfields.

All existing bookings are being honoured and current and future tours are also proceeding as planned. No disruption is expected to customers, and customer monies continue to be protected by TTA.

The company is not currently sold through travel agents despite announcing plans to sell through the trade last year. It was founded in 2017, selling through revenue share media partnerships such as Hearst magazines, The Telegraph and the Wall Street Journal.

Former chief executive Charles Starmer-Smith blamed a number of factors, including trading and declining circulation among the company’s partners, for the company’s collapse into administration.

He said: “Despite the growth of our agency and operator arm, TS Travel, the impact of Covid and the challenging trading conditions across the wider business, coupled with declining search traffic and circulation among our partners, resulted in the businesses entering administration.

“However, all holidays will proceed as planned and no customers will be affected, with all bookings continuing to be protected through the Travel Trust Association.”

He added: “We are delighted that The Travel Network Group has acquired the businesses as they will provide the support, expertise and trade partnership opportunities that will enable the business to thrive and expand the range of its hand-crafted expert-led tours which offer something truly unique in the travel market.”

TS Tours currently has more than 50 departures planned for 2026 and 2027, with the majority featuring its signature expert-led tour format. These tours combine iconic sights, behind-the-scenes access and exclusive experiences, all hosted by recognised specialists and personalities.

Previous tours advertised by the company have included exploring Tuscany with members of the Bocelli family and food-focused trips with chefs including James Martin.
