Thanksgiving is often a busy and stressful time to travel, but there a few ways to have a calmer travel experience.
SHEBOYGAN COUNTY – A possibility of snow for Sheboygan County and the lakefront area could impact Thanksgiving travel plans this holiday week.
The National Weather Service’s Milwaukee/Sullivan office predicts there could be light snow showers on Wednesday and a possibility of snow later this week. The amount of snow, exact locations and days that see the most snow are still uncertain, as of the afternoon Nov. 24.
If a snow system moves northward across Iowa into Wisconsin, a mix of rain and snow is likely this weekend, with the heaviest snowfall hitting northern parts of the state, according to the NWS forecast.
Tuesday could see light rain and a high of 51 degrees. The next day, temperatures could drop and continue into the high 20s and 30s for the rest of the week.
If traveling north, the Green Bay NWS office predicts Wednesday travel will see the greatest impact, with rain changing to snow overnight. North-central areas of Wisconsin could see moderate to heavy snow.
Northern counties like Oneida, Forest and Vilas are under a winter storm watch and could receive at least 4 inches of snow.
There could be strong winds and light snow across central and east-central areas of the state, too, that could reduce visibility and worsen road conditions.
When there is ice and snow, the NWS advises drivers to clean off their vehicles before driving, drive slowly and don’t use cruise control, and leave extra distance between vehicles, staying especially far behind snow plows.
Lake effect snow in the far northern part of the state and strong winds could moderately impact travel on Thanksgiving Day.
