Passengers using London’s airports have been warned to plan their journeys well in advance and expect disruption as industrial action on the London Underground and DLR gets underway.
In a post on social media, Heathrow said: “London Underground strike action between Sunday 7 September until Friday 12 September – tube services will be severely disrupted, with little to no service expected.”
The airport said Heathrow Express, Elizabeth Line and bus services are running as normal. However, reports on Monday morning suggested severe congestion on the Elizabeth Line, with some central London stations opening later than usual.
London City Airport also warned of disruption and advised customers to plan ahead.
A statement on the Gatwick Express website warned some of its services could be disrupted, adding: “Journey planners are up to date for all affected days. Please note, this plan is subject to change at very short notice, so we strongly advise planning ahead and checking your journey again just prior to travelling.”
The statement also said: “Please also be aware that if this action is called off at short notice, it may not be possible for us to revert to a normal service.”
The rolling workouts over pay and conditions are due to run until Thursday, with little or no service expected on the London Underground during the period.
Separate strikes are due to shut down the DLR on Tuesday and Thursday.
