Expedia recently revealed that Brits are prioritising domestic travel this year, looking for spots that offer proximity, flexibility, and relevance right now.
Sharing why Brits are swapping abroad trips for staycations, Melanie Fish, Travel Expert at Expedia, revealed, “as major global events and rising costs influence decisions, travellers are either staying closer to home or seeking out destinations where they can get more for their money”.
The travel experts named 10 destinations across the UK that are among the top spots explorers want to visit this summer, and one Hertfordshire location ranked best.
Picturesque Hertfordshire market town is the UK’s top summer destination
Hertfordshire’s own Bishop’s Stortford was named the UK’s best destination this summer by Expedia.
The historic market town has a wide range of appeals, from its replica Norman castle, museums, and attractive look.
Describing the town, Expedia said: “Relax in a picturesque town just outside of London, set in gorgeous countryside and home to historical attractions.
“Lift a knight’s sword, explore a replica Norman castle, and learn about a controversial figure from British history when you visit Bishop’s Stortford.
“This attractive town is nestled in the Hertfordshire countryside, a short drive from London.”
Suggesting what visitors can do at Bishop’s Stortford, Expedia shares that the town’s museum allows guests to see clothes from the Victorian era and medieval village stocks.
Just outside of the town centre is Mountfitchet Castle, a replica Norman castle that stands on the site where the original once stood more than 900 years ago.
At the castle, visitors can hold a knight’s sword and view life-size models of the siege weapons used during the Norman Conquest of 1066.
