A woman has shared a polarising hack to prevent the person sitting in front of you on a plane from reclining their seat, but critics are calling it out for being unfair.

The question about whether or not you should recline your seat during a flight will always cause controversy. While some argue it makes for a miserable journey for the people sitting behind you as it minimises their already limited space, others are claiming that the right to recline comes with the seat.

One frequent flier has now taken to TikTok to share her controversial hack to prevent the person in front of her from reclining their seat, after having refusing to put up their seat during meal time.

“This is the best life hack when you’ve got someone in front who’s trying to put the seat down constantly,” Clare Duggan said in her TikTok video, which has received over 1.5 million views.

In the video, Clare is seen using a large can of Pringles to prevent the person in the seat in front of her from putting their seat back.

By lodging the cylinder crisp container between the tray table in front of her and the latch on it, it stops the seat connected to it from moving, preventing the seat from reclining and getting closer to Clare during the flight.

While several people took to the comment section to praise Claire for her ‘genius’ hack, some don’t believe it’s okay to limit the person in front of you from moving their seat back.

One person said: “Clever! But they are entitled to put seat back, like,” to which another person replied: “Yep and you’re entitled to have Pringles on your tray table lol”.

A third user said: “I’d ask why my seat wasn’t reclining, then the steward/ess would embarrass you In front of everyone.”

When another user asked why you’d want to prevent someone from reclining the seat they’d paid for, Clare replied: “I actually don’t mind people reclining but this guy was refusing to lift his up when I was eating even though politely asked. so this seemed like a fair way of dealing with it…”
