The Carlisle Citadel Railway Station guided tours are being organised by Open Book Visitor Guiding – Great Guided Tours, which was established in 1979.
The tours will begin with a presentation at The County Hotel, formerly the Old Red Lion, on Botchergate, before visitors cross the road to explore the station itself.
Organisers say the tour will look for evidence of changes made to the station over the years, while sharing stories of ‘interesting events and quiet heroes’.
The walk will include the station platforms and the undercroft, giving visitors the chance to learn more about a building many people pass through without knowing its full story.
Carlisle Citadel station opened in 1847 and has played an important role in the city’s transport history for nearly 180 years.
The next tour takes place on Sunday, May 17, at 11am, with further dates listed for June 14, October 15, November 15 and December 6.
Visitors are advised to wear warm, waterproof clothing. The tour involves some steps, although lifts will also be used.
Tickets cost £8 for adults and £4 for children aged six to 15. A £2 discount is available for My Cumbria members and up to four guests.
Tickets also include a voucher for a complimentary regular coffee or house tea at Watts Coffee Shop.
Booking is essential and can be made through Carlisle Tourist Information Centre, either in person or by calling 01228 598596.
