A mum named Millie Overton was excited to go on a family holiday to Turkey, but soon realised the big mistake they’d made as it wasn’t anything like they’d expected

While going on holiday can be expensive, especially if you’re looking to bring your whole family, one way to get away from hefty prices could be to travel during less busy times of the years. This often means going during the spring or autumn months, when there are no school or bank holidays.
However, this in itself can come with its own list of issues you might not have thought of. This was the case for one woman named Millie Overton, from Blidworth in Nottinghamshire, who decided to bring her family on an all-inclusive holiday to Turkey at the start of April this year. However, it didn’t turn out the way she’d expected.
Instead of laying in sunbeds, soaking up the sunshine by the hotel pool, Millie took to TikTok to share the ‘reality’ of her holiday, as she realised she’d made a big mistake when deciding the holiday dates.
“Book Turkey in April… says no one ever!!!” Millie wrote in the overlay text on the video.
She showed herself laying on a sunbed at the hotel, donning a pair of sunglasses but having wrapped herself up in a blanket to stay warm.
Millie then turned the camera to show that she way laying by the hotel pool, but that the sky was far from the blue and sunny conditions she’d expected. Instead, it looked grey and overcast, similar to a day in the UK.
She added in the caption of the post: “Think it’s warmer at home! It’s [a] break though isn’t it?”
While Mille didn’t explain where in Turkey she was, the average weather in the country in April is usually mild, pleasant spring weather, with average temperatures between 10°C and 20°C, making it perfect for sightseeing, but less ideal if you want an all-inclusive holiday by the beach or a pool.
Meanwhile, the UK experienced an unusually warm April this year, with dry, sunny, and warm conditions for many, particularly in the South, following a very wet winter. Several areas also experienced record breaking warm conditions, with temperatures reaching up towards 26C in some areas.
And it seems like Mille wasn’t the only one who had booked her Turkey holiday for April, as several others soon took to the comment section to share their own thoughts.
“I’m coming in 7 days pretty scared,” one person wrote. Another one also shared: ” We arrive on Thursday & it looks like a week of rain, taking my waterproof jacket & warmer clothing.”
Someone else suggested: “Why are you forcing yourself to sit outside if you’re cold? Go indoors. It’s not a mandatory activity to sit by a pool on holiday.”
However, someone else also shared: “went in the end of March and had good weather.”
It’s safe to say that if you’re looking to book a holiday, it might be wise to look at what the average temperatures are in the month you’re travelling, to help avoid being disappointed by the weather.
