Wimbledon 2026 has swung into action, and punnets of strawberries, deckchairs and Pimms are waiting to welcome spectators to the world’s oldest tennis tournament.

But with 42,000 people set to attend the Championships each day between 29 June and 12 July, it’s wise to plot your route well in advance to make it to Centre Court.

In 2025, visitors to the tennis tournament were caught up in cancellations and delays amid days of disruption on the District line.

Whether travelling by train, car or bike, here’s how to reach SW19 in time for the first serve.

Public transport

Tennis enthusiasts travelling by Tube should take the District line to Southfields station for a 15-minute stroll to the grounds, or Wimbledon Park station for a 25-minute walk.

The District line intersects with various other lines at major termini, including the Piccadilly line at Hammersmith Station, the Victoria line at Victoria Station and the Bakerloo line at Embankment. A full District line map can be found here and routes can be plotted using the Transport for London (TfL) journey planner.

The District line, South Western Railway and London Trams all also serve Wimbledon station, a 20-minute walk to the event.

From Wimbledon station, a dedicated bus service will run to the grounds with return fares from around £6.50 departing from Car Park 1 on Somerset Road.

During the Championships, the 493 bus will be redirected via Bathgate Road, Queensmere Road, Parkside and High Street Wimbledon in both directions.

Cycling

For tennis fans looking to cycle to the tournament, bike parking is available in Car Parks 6 and 10 free of charge.

By car

Drivers must pre-book all public car parking spaces at Wimbledon, with no on-the-day parking sales.

Some shared taxi services will operate with fixed fares of £3.50 for adults from Southfields station to the grounds.

Return taxis to Southfields and central London will leave from Wimbledon Park Road (exit via Gate 1) and to Wimbledon station from Somerset Road (exit via Gate 12).

At Morden Park, a Championships park and ride service will run at £20 for cars, or £10 for fully electric vehicles between 6.30am and 11pm. The last bus will leave the grounds at 10pm, or 10.40pm if there is late play on Centre Court.

TfL has asked taxi drivers to help “meet demand from passengers travelling to and returning home from the Championships”.
