If you’re an oldie but goldie living outside of Singapore and looking for your next travel destination – look no further. The list of top 10 destinations for retirees to travel to is out, and our little island city has made the list. We come in at #10, standing out for our quality healthcare and wealth of things to do.

The ranking comes from travel insurance expert PayingTooMuch, which analysed a list of 45 global cities plucked from a list of happiest cities in the world (which Singapore is also on, by the way, as one of the ‘Golden “Happiest” Cities’). It looked at third-party data to determine the number of hotels rated three stars and above, hotel costs, tour availability, healthcare quality, and the number of activities and walking tours available in each city.

Propelling us into the top 10 was our high quality of healthcare. We scored 70.4 compared to the highest score of 79.7 (Helsinki, Finland). For a small country, we also made a strong showing in the “number of things to do” (825) and “number of walking routes” (184) categories. We can testify to that – Singapore has a ton of walking trails to suit all tastes and abilities, including easy nature walks in our lush tropical rainforests. Otherwise, walk into the history books on historical walking trails or explore our colourful urban art on these art walks.

The survey also found 301 hotels in Singapore rated three stars and above. Overall, accommodations in Singapore are high-quality and diverse, so take your pick: splash that hard-earned retirement money on these top-notch luxury hotels or go for something unique, like a stay in a shophouse hotel. According to the survey, you’ll need an average of S$2613 for a week in a hotel of three stars and above – if that sounds like it’s out of your budget, you can also look into our list of good and affordable stays in Singapore
