Race Across the World has aired yet more travel drama as the contestants get closer and closer to the finish line.

The latest episode of the BBC show saw the teams leave Thailand for Malaysia as they make their way to Lombok and the £20,000 cash prize.

However, brother-sister duo Betty and James found their journey thrown into chaos when they left their passports on the bus they caught from Bagan Sungai Burong.

After getting off the bus, which was set to return to Ipoh, around two hours away, Betty realised she was missing her bumbag with the essential travel documents.

The following morning, the bus driver met the pair at the bus station to reunite them with their belongings, allowing them to continue in the competition.

“From now, I will be enjoying every moment because you don’t actually know when it’s going to come to an end. And I give James permission to slap me round the face or something with my passport,” Betty said.

This is the second time the duo had misplaced their passports – just weeks ago, James left his in his bumbag on a bench.

While travelling to the Thailand checkpoint, Betty and James went through Cambodian capital Phnom Penh when he boarded a tuk-tuk without his bag.

Luckily, he managed to run back and find it, and their passports, though their Cambodian money had been stolen.

Fans of the show took to social media to air their anxieties over the latest fiasco, branding the duo “extremely lucky” but also “extremely careless”.

“Can production just hold on to Betty and James’ passports please? My heart can’t take this anymore 3rd time,” one user wrote.

Another added: “Betty & James have the most lovely relationship. Keep your passport in your socks from now on though.”

A third posted: “Betty and James are playing with my emotions tonight!! So happy they found the passports.”

The final episode of the show airs on June 5 – hopefully without any more passports going walkies.

Race Across the World airs at 9pm on Wednesday nights on BBC One, and streams on iPlayer. A fifth season has been confirmed.
