The Philippines is set to host this year’s World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony on Tuesday, 3 September, at the City of Dreams – Manila.

In a statement, the country’s Department of Tourism (DOT) stated that the event cements the country’s position as a premier Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination. It also recognises the Philippines’ growing popularity as a location for high-level events.

Tourism secretary Christina Frasco said: “This not only marks a historical tourism milestone for our country, but also serves as a testament to the Philippines’ growing prominence and readiness to host high-calibre international events.”

Frasco also expressed her appreciation of the way esteemed global organisations like the World Travel Awards continue to recognise the Philippines’ capacity to deliver world-class hospitality, superior event management, and unparalleled tourism experiences.”

A historic first

This is the first time that the Philippines will be hosting the WTAs.

The country is also in the running for awards in seven specific categories; these are: Asia’s Leading Beach Destination; Asia’s Leading Dive Destination; Asia’s Leading Island Destination; Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction (Intramuros in Manila); Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination (Boracay); Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination (Cebu); and Asia’s Leading Tourist Board (DOT).

Frasco said these nominations underscore the relentless efforts of the Philippine government and tourism stakeholders to foster an environment where tourism can thrive sustainably and inclusively.

She added: “This hosting opportunity comes at an auspicious time. Each of these nominations signifies recognition of the unique and diverse offerings of our beautiful archipelago—from our pristine beaches and world-renowned dive sites to the vibrant culture and food and the innate hospitality and friendliness of the Filipino people.”
