4 Connacht boxers are to travel to the World Boxing Championships in Montenegro later this month under a neutral flag.
The decision was initially taken when only 8 boxers out of a possible 23 were chosen to represent Ireland at the championships.
The 12 boxers, who were invited by the IBA, were told if they went to the games under a neutral flags, they would face sanctions by the IABA.
However at Saturday’s EGM meeting in the National Stadium last Saturday, the CEO of the IABA Niall Carroll said that boxers who travelled under a neutral flag will no longer face sanctions if they travel.
Three boxers travelling are from Mayo.
50kg Carlagh Peake – Ballyhaunis BC
75kg Nell McLaughlin – Eagle BC, Westport
80kg Padraig Corduff – St Annes BC, Westport
While the other Connacht boxer is from Galway
67kg Marcus Barrett – Titans BC
The World Championships run from October 22nd to November 4th.
