Although it’s always a good time to visit Los Angeles, we’d like to join the folks at National Geographic and suggest people travel to the area as soon as possible given the upcoming new art offerings that will soon call the city home.
The outlet just released its list of 25 best places to visit in the world in 2025 and L.A. is only one of three American destinations to make the ranking. Ocala National Forest in Florida and Boise in Idaho are the other two U.S. mentions.
“L.A.’s cultural scene is getting a jolt of new energy,” reads the report, which specifically mentions Destination Crenshaw, which will transform over a mile of Crenshaw Boulevard into a series of pocket parks with art installations that are created by and celebrate the area’s local Black community. The activation will be the largest public/private Black art program in the U.S.
But there’s more: Although set to debut in 2026 (until recently, it was set for 2025), the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is sure to revamp Exposition Park’s entire character. The spaceship-like institution will display works collected by the one and only George Lucas (yes, of Star Wars fame). Before then, Angelenos will get to enjoy the newly set up David Geffen Galleries at LACMA, where the museum’s collection will officially take residence in a single building.
In addition to the programs mentioned by National Geographic, L.A. is home to a myriad of other exciting art opportunities that folks can take in now through the end of the year and into 2025—starting with the third iteration of PST ART, a Getty-funded initiative that’s offered nearly $20 million in grants to museums and a few galleries to stage exhibitions on artificial intelligence, climate change, cyberpunk and dozens of other topics at the intersection of art and science.
What can we say? Some refer to us as the City of Angels… but we like to also think of ourselves as the city of top-notch art.
