Europe is brimming with well-known travel destinations but it’s also home to numerous hidden gems that offer unique experiences without the overwhelming tourist crowds.

Veering off well-trodden routes is easy to do thanks to a new list of eight “secret” places in Europe as revealed by HomeToGo. The holiday rental experts have dug out the most enchanting destinations across Spain, Italy, Germany and France that are largely undiscovered by UK visitors.

Places treasured by locals include the serene beaches of Côtes-d’Armor and the vibrant city of Zaragoza, both of which could rival the likes of Paris and Barcelona.

According to the HomeToGo experts, these destinations are in demand with the residents of each country, appearing in lists of the 100 most-searched locations amongst domestic travellers.

However, the statistics show that these beloved-by-locals sites have not yet been discovered by (the majority of) UK travellers. Looking at exclusively UK holidaymaker searches for each country, none broke into the top 200 most-in-demand places to stay.
