Travel journalist and influencer Lindsay Paige Stein has rounded up the top locations worldwide that are a must-see this summer season.
If you’re looking to get away for a last-minute trip this summer before it’s time to break out your sweaters, flannel, UGG boots, felt hats, and pumpkin spice lattes but aren’t sure where to go, we’ve got you covered.
Travel journalist, influencer, and destination expert Lindsay Paige Stein has rounded up her recommendations for the top locations worldwide that are a must-see this summer season.
Italy
“Without a doubt, Italy is one of the best destinations in Europe to visit throughout the summer,” Stein said. “I recommend going in early September for ideal weather and less crowds.” Once in the country, Stein says that it’s definitely worth it to hit up a few different cities and charming towns. “The place to visit is the Amalfi Coast to see its cliffside villages and crystal-clear waters. And, of course, Florence is another must-go-to destination with its Renaissance art and architecture,” she adds. Her recommendation is to visit Rome for at least two days where you can explore the ancient ruins and some of the best authentic Italian food. She also says that Sicily, specifically Taormina where White Lotus was filmed, is a must — especially in the summer. “If time allows, I’d also recommend driving to the scenic Tuscan countryside for a few days of relaxation in the vineyards.”
Where to stay: Hotel Eden Rome or Tenuta di Artimo in Tuscany, and Four Seasons San Domenico Palace in Sicily
Croatia
“Dubrovnik stands out as another top Europe destination for summer, and one of my favorite countries in the region,” Stein says. “Visit from June to September for the best weather and local events.” Travelers can explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town with its medieval walls to see where the HBO television series Game of Thrones was filmed. “The best part is relaxing on beaches like Banje and Lapad, or taking a boat trip to the nearby Elafiti Islands for secluded coves and local eateries. Also, make sure to visit the nearby port town of Cavtat, a more hidden gem spot where celebrities frequent.”
Where to stay: Hotel Dubrovnik Palace, Hotel Supetar Cavtat, and Hotel Excelsior
Bermuda
“If you’re on the East Coast, Bermuda is a lesser-known summer destination that’s only a two-hour flight away. From May to October would be the best time to visit Bermuda with its warm weather and luxury accommodations,” Stein says. Bermuda is known for its pink beaches, limestone formations at the Crystal and Fantasy Caves, and the charming streets of Hamilton. “For a touch of history, visit St. George’s, a UNESCO World Heritage site with colonial architecture,” she adds.
Where to stay: The Loren and Rosewood Bermuda
Maine
No matter where you live in the country, Maine is worth traveling for in the summertime. Known for its lobster rolls, beautiful coastline, and ocean, it gives off the ultimate summer getaway vibes. Don’t miss out on Acadia National Park for hiking, a scenic drive, and quaint Bar Harbor town for dining and shopping. Visitors can also stop at the coastal towns like Camden and Ogunquit to check out lobster shacks and fresh seafood. Whether you’re in Maine for a quick weekend road trip or a weeks-long stay, you’ll have an unforgettable summer vacation.
Where to stay: The Dunes on the Waterfront and White Barn Inn, Auberge Resorts Collection
Banff, Canada
When you think of Banff, Canada, you may picture snow activities, but it’s also an underrated summer destination for outdoor adventures. “When visiting from June to September, the park’s trails and lakes are fully accessible, and the turquoise waters of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are a must-see Instagram-worthy spot!” she explains. “Here, you can kayak, hike, view wildlife, or even picnic on the lake. Also, Banff has various dining options and plenty of shopping experiences.”
