COMMUTERS using a major railway line are suffering severe disruption because of a signalling failure.

Services between London Paddington and Reading are suspended due to a fault in Berkshire, Great Western Railway (GWR) said.

The disruption could wreak havoc for travellers requiring the route to get to Heathrow Airport Terminals.

The signalling failure occurred between Twyford and Slough, according to National Rail.

Some GWR trains are being re-routed to London Waterloo.

However, ticket holders have been assured they are able to use South Western Railway services on some routes.

Transport for London (TfL) said it is unable to run Elizabeth line trains between Maidenhead and Reading because of the signalling issue.
Disruption is expected to continue until 11am on Wednesday.

In an update posted to X this morning, National Rail said: “A fault with the signalling system in the #Twyford area means that some lines are blocked.

“Trains between Slough and Reading may be cancelled or delayed by up to 50 minutes as a result.”

In a further update, the network added that although some lines had reopened, major disruption was expected into the afternoon.

It said: “Major disruption between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminals / Reading is now expected to continue until 13:00.”
