A grand imposing building in Mayfair is opening its doors to offer tours for people who want to have a look around.

Royal Institution (c) ianVisits

This is the Royal Institution, founded in 1799 by the leading scientists of the time, it’s been home to science and discovery ever since. Although it’s open for the free museum in the basement and regular events, few people have a chance to wander around the building.

So, they’re introducing a new idea of offering guided tours of the building and its history at the Royal Institution. A tour guide will take you through the rooms of their Grade I listed building, including the famous lecture theatre, Faraday Lab and Library.

Tours last approximately 45 minutes and involve walking and standing. A lift is available for those unable to manage stairs. The tour is wheelchair accessible.

Tours cost £11.02 per person and are currently available at noon on the following dates:

Thursday 3rd July 2025

Thursday 10th July 2025

There will be a brief question/answer period after the tour and the chance to explore their exhibition space.

More dates will be available later.

The Royal Institution is on Albemarle Street, a few minutes walk from Green Park tube station.
