San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego all made a Tripadvisor 2025 U.S. best travel destination list.
The Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best ranks destinations that receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the website’s community over 12 months, according to the site. Out of 8 million listings, fewer than 1 percent is ranked.
San Francisco was selected at No. 7 for the distinct character of its neighborhoods, according to the site.

“Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission,” according to the listing. “The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques.”
The site also mentions the sea lions at Pier 39 and sampling cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building.
Los Angeles was selected No. 18 for Hollywood and the possibility of seeing celebrities.
“Tour movie studios, slip your hands into the famous prints at the TCL Chinese Theatre, or indulge in a celeb sighting at one of LA’s white-hot nightspots,” according to the site. “Spot your favorite star while shopping at The Grove, or forget all about the famous eye candy as you take in the iconic artwork at The Getty Center.”
The site also mentions Griffith Observatory to check out a different type of star.

San Diego, the last California city on the list, ranked No. 21 for its laid-back culture.
“Breathe in the fresh ocean air at Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, then gobble down a fresh fish taco at a La Jolla seafood joint,” according to the site. “The naval aircrafts at the USS Midway Museum will have you standing at attention.”
