Family vacations provide a much-needed break from the daily chaos of balancing children, school, activities and work. Even if just for a few days a year, escaping your mundane routine allows every family member (parent or little one) to refresh and recharge—and, of course, make memories together. Any getaway, from a road trip or staycation to an international adventure, will do the trick, and the best one for your family depends on individual needs and preferences.
If you’re yearning to jet off on an airplane trip, the cost of plane tickets for you and all your children might be holding you back, or maybe it’s the price of a hotel stay to accommodate everyone for a week. That’s where points hacking comes in; if you know how to work the system, you can use points to cover the cost of airline fares and hotel accommodations so that you can finally book that dream family vacation.

You’ll be happy to hear the spot they’re talking about. “Hawaii is a go-to points and miles destination for my family. It’s an easy one to visit on repeat because every major U.S. airline offers flights there, and most of the hotel brands have a fairly decent presence there as well,” they shared. There are plenty of credit card offerings from airlines that fly direct to Hawaii from many US states, and there are also many airlines that are partnered with major credit card companies, allowing you to score deals on flights with your regular bank credit card. Major hotel chains have properties on many of the Hawaiian islands, as well, so you can use your loyalty points to book beachfront rooms to stay in on your trip. “Hawaii is a dream destination for many people, and being able to visit again and again on points is totally doable!”
How to Use Points for Flights to and Hotels in Hawaii
During our chat, they told us “Our families are regularly flying to Hawaii for just $11.20/person round-trip and staying at luxury resorts for $0 thanks to points and miles!” That sounds like a screaming deal to us. And lucky for you, they also share the details on how you can do it, too. “On their blog, they’ve spilled their favorite “hacks” for getting round-trip flights to the island paradise for as little as 20K points.
By booking flights through Turkish Airlines, you’ll get lower prices, even though you’ll actually fly on a United plane—the two airlines are both part of Star Alliance, a large airline alliance connecting 25 global airlines. Turkish Airlines is partnered with Capital One and Citi, two major banks that offer popular credit cards with great rewards systems. If you have a Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card or The Citi Strata Premier credit card, you can transfer your accrued points to Turkish Airlines and use them to book your fares. They also regularly use their Southwest Airlines miles in combination with the airline’s Companion Pass offer for their Hawaii flights.
Their savings don’t stop there; they usually use points to pay for their accommodations in Hawaii. The Travel Mom Squad’s favorite hotel points program for families is the World of Hyatt, and the hotel chain has many properties among the islands, from the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki Beach to the Andaz in Maui.
