An underrated mountainous Mediterranean island is home to a beautiful white sandy beach that is considered to be one of the world’s best.

Corsica may not immediately spring to mind when thinking about holiday hotspots in southern Europe, with millions choosing instead Italy, Spain or Greece, but has many beautiful beaches. There is one in particular that stands out – Palombaggia. This spot has been ranked among the best beaches in the world by Tripadvisor.

Renowned for its crystal clear waters, this beloved beach is nestled on the southeast shore of the island.

Palombaggia really is a beach lovers’ paradise and is home to numerous postcard-perfect coves, parasol pines and red rocks.

Every year, Tripadvisor awards the Travelers’ Choice Awards to “establishments that receive a large number of reviews from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period. “Of our eight million listings, less than 1% reach this level,” it is noted on their website.

Twenty-five beaches worldwide have been honoured in this ranking and among them was Palombaggia.

This perfectly serene and secluded white sandy beach came in a respectable 17th place.

“Bordered by pine trees, Plage de Palombaggia is a relaxing seaside escape. The calm water is perfect for swimming and snorkelling, and there’s tons of space to sunbathe on the huge, sandy shore,” says TripAdvisor.

“Take a stroll along the red rocks and at the end of the day, grab a bite at one of the beachside restaurants”, the website adds.

Classified also by UNESCO among the nicest beaches in the world, Palombaggia is just six miles south from Porto-Vecchio and 18 miles southeast of Bonifacio.

Whilst visiting this long sandy beach you can dine at some beautiful, authentic restaurants that dot the beachfront each selling an array of local, fresh produce.

Near Palombaggia is Porto Vecchio an attractive old town perched high on dramatic hilltop which is definitely worth a visit.

This historic coastal gem has a scenic marina, favoured by A-listers and celebrities, as well as a rich history, beautiful beaches, and a vibrant nightlife that offer a relaxed, carefree vibe.

The area is surrounded by vast marchlands where pink-feathered flamingoes show off their beauty.

Elafonissi Beach in Crete took first place in Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards. This beach is known for its pink sands and amazing shallow waters.
