Also making the list was Copenhagen in Denmark, Koh Samui in Thailand, Bodrum in Turkey and Zakynthos in Greece.

Resorts in Portugal, Mexico and Croatia also featured.

In speaking of Thanet, the travel magazine praised how it “comes alive” during the summer months, with all manner of visitors seeking a spot on one of its award-winning beaches.

Margate received the most praise as being a “timeless big hitter” with an eclectic mix of shops and celebrated restaurants, as well as being home to Dreamland and arcades.

The write-up adds: “On overcast days, there’s still plenty to do – especially for fashionistas, thanks to a bunch of vintage stores dotted between popular brunch spots in the Old Town.”

Of Broadstairs, the article states: “Broadstairs is a seaside resort adored by Brits since steamboats and railways created easy access from London in the Victorian era.

“August is a busy but exceptionally jolly time as Folk Week takes over the town around the second week of the month.

“Musicians and entertainers are invited to perform in cosy pubs, music venues and outdoor areas such as the clifftop bandstand.”

In 2022, Cliftonville in Margate was named as the eighth ‘coolest neighbourhood in the world’ to visit by Time Out, beating out destinations in Chile, Chicago, Barcelona and Naples in Italy.

Other places in the county have also received high praise in recent years.

Folkestone was hailed as the best place to live in the UK in January, also by Time Out.

One of the town’s beaches, Sunny Sands, also ranked as one of the best to visit by train by Euronews.travel in their list which examined seasides that can be easily reached by rail for an eco-friendly getaway.

Whereas @samchowtravels described Mermaid Beach, also in Folkestone, as an ‘unreal place to visit’ in a viral TikTok video.
