Friday saw torrential rain in the region, with the bad weather continuing into the night.
Travel delays have been announced this morning (Saturday). West Midlands Railway posted on X that there were overhead wire issues between Walsall and Rugeley.
It said: “Walsall – Rugeley Trent Valley overhead wire issues. Disruption is now expected to last until approx 3pm.
“Rail replacement will shuttle between the 2 stations. We have ticket acceptance with @nxwestmidlands between Birmingham – Walsall.”
Meanwhile, Birmingham New Street posted on Saturday morning: “Disruption between Birmingham & Rugeley following damage to overheard lines during #StormClaudia, our teams are continuing to work hard to clear debris, repair equipment & reopen affected routes as soon as possible. Please check http://nationalrail.co.uk for journey info.”
Teams also worked through the evening to clear trees that had fallen on the railway tracks in the region.
Posting at 10.40pm on Friday night, Birmingham New Street said: ” Thanks for your patience while we’ve been responding to #StormClaudia.
“We are working hard to get all remaining passengers home safely. Our team will be making necessary repairs & checking the railway through the night.
“We’re responding to multiple incidents this evening with #StormClaudia bringing trees & debris onto the railway.
“Please do not start any new journeys tonight. We are working hard to get everybody home safe. Our team clearing a tree on the railway at Sutton Park.”
A tree also fell in Common Road, Wolverhampton, on Friday evening, causing buses to divert.
There was also flooding reported in Smethwick, with a video posted on X showing floodwater submerging cars.
And West Midlands Roads posted on X just before 8.30am on Saturday that the A4123 Wolverhampton Road, southbound between Newbury Lane and Birchley Island, in Oldbury was closed due to flooding.
