First Americans Museum, Turner Falls among must-see spots in Oklahoma
Oklahoma is rich with wildlife, museums and parks, making the state a bucket list travel experience for all ages. Here are seven must-see destinations
Sooners know Oklahoma City is bringing several new offerings to the table this year, and Southern Living has agreed by including an OKC stop in a recently released travel list.
This month, the magazine released a list of the 25 best places to go in the South in 2025. Southern Living’s editors scoured the region for new and notable locations and compiled a list of the best of the best, from natural wonders to luxury, experiential stays.
On the list is one Oklahoma spot. Here’s a look at who made the list:
Horizon’s District, OKC
Though spread out, Oklahoma City’s 21 districts like Bricktown and Automobile Alley unite the communities around them with their distinct and curated atmospheres.
New to OKC is the Horizons District, which is the home of the First Americans Museum and soon-to-open OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark.
OKANA is set to be a major attraction for Oklahomans and travelers, Southern Living noted. Travelers can enjoy the riverfront hotel, amphitheater, retail, spa and other local amenities.
Next door to the resort, the First Americans Museum will likely witness some of this travel boom.
The museum includes over 175,000 square feet of history of Oklahoma’s 39 tribal nations. Though the two locations are connected physically by location, they also have a concrete tie to the Indigenous tribes that formed this state.
Southern Living writes that OKANA, led by the Chickasaw Nation, and the First Nations Museum blend “entertainment and education, hoping to serve as a model for more meaningful projects to come. “
