Police have launched an investigation after a person died at Liverpool Lime Street train station.
The tragic incident led to travel chaos – with most services out of the busy railway station either cancelled or delayed.
Emergency services were called to the station at just after midday today following ‘reports of a safety concern’ as police announce they are launching an investigation.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police told the Liverpool ECHO: ‘British Transport Police were called to Liverpool Lime Street at 12.30pm today (April 28) to reports of a concern for safety.
‘Officers and paramedics attended, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is being investigated.’
Following the incident, trains leaving the station faced delays of up to 74 minutes after police cordoned off most of the stations 11 platforms.
Larges queues then formed in the station as passengers struggled to make their planned journeys with services to Manchester and as far as London Euston were either cancelled or delayed.
Trains due to arrive at Lime Street also faced disruptions as services to the stations were terminated at stations such as Liverpool South Parkway – a station five miles outside Liverpool city centre.
The disruption continued for over three hours until services finally resumed at 4.30pm.
