Orihuela is hosting special heritage tours in September.

THE DEPARTMENT of tourism of the Orihuela Town Council is organising a variety of touristic routes for residents and visitors to give them the opportunity to get to know the most famous, historically significant, and timeless landmarks of the municipality. Throughout the month of September, the programme will guide interested visitors through important tours through the beautiful town, with the patron saint of Orihuela, the Virgen de Monserrate, as the main theme. The tours will be available for anyone of any age or fitness level.

The programme is as follows: on Saturday, September 13, there will be a Cultural Tour through the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Monserrate, heading out from the Arco de Santo Domingo at 10:00am. On Sunday, September 14, the group will explore the Almohades Murals and the Hermitage of Monserrate, starting from the Plaza del Carmen at 10:00am.

Friday, September 19 will see an exploration of the Alfonso X “El Sabio” legacy from the Plaza del Carmen at 5:30pm. On Saturday, September 20, there will be a “Discover the Route of the Tapa” tour from the Plaza de la Iglesia at 11:00am.

On Thursday, September 25, the group will explore The Oven of Bustamante and La Lonja, heading out at 5:30pm from the Arco de Santo Domingo.

The last weekend of September will close out the tours and visits: on Saturday, September 27, the group will explore the grove of Río Segura in Molins heading out from the Hermitage de la Cruz by the Carrefour parking lot at 5:30pm, and Sunday, September 28 will end the programme with a visit to the San Isidro Murals, starting from the Guernica Mural at 9:30am.

With these tours, the Orihuela Department of Tourism strengthens visitors’ and residents’ connection with the historical and traditional side of the municipality, appreciating nature all the while.
