A new Assisted Travel Lounge has opened up at Derby station by East Midlands Railway (EMR) and Transport UK.

The new lounge, located near the main concourse, is specifically designed to create a comfortable space for customers who require additional support.

It is another step that both have taken to demonstrate their commitment to creating inclusive travel experiences.

There is sufficient space for wheelchair users to manoeuvre around comfortably, with the desk area redesigned to feature a split level for easier use.

Additionally, accessible seating is available, equipped with charging points.

Acoustic wall panels have also been installed to help reduce noise, ensuring the space remains as peaceful and calm as possible.

Customers can also check their journeys much more easily with the new Customer Information Screens that have been installed, which are bigger with clearer text.

The £50,000 invested in the space has been utilised effectively, with the consultation of local accessibility advocates and the community, to ensure that each aspect of the lounge is well considered to meet the needs of a diverse range of customers.

Customers who wish to use the lounge can speak with a member of staff, who will guide them there if they are unable to locate it.

“I’m really pleased to see the launch of the Assisted Travel Lounge at Derby Station.

“Accessible spaces like this are vital in helping to remove some of the barriers disabled people face when travelling.

“Having a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment can make a huge difference, turning what might be a stressful experience into one that feels inclusive and dignified. This is a positive step towards making rail travel more accessible for everyone.”
