One enthusiastic viewer exclaimed on Reddit, “Who else is watching 1899 on Netflix? Huge LOST vibes that I’m getting.”
Another offered a humorous take: “I will be checking it out in a bit. But first I MUST finish this rewatch…..4815162342, 4815161342, 4815162342, 4815162342.”
Further reflecting on the similarities, a third fan noted, “Yes I was going to make a similar post! It feels like Lost on a ship, in a good way. You have the Jack and Kate characters with Eyk and Maura, the pregnant blonde girl, the fake priest, and they and everyone else get to have flashbacks to their most traumatic moments.”
An avid fan shared their personal viewing experience: “I watched it one episode at a time with my fiance so we could theorize after every episode! [sic].”

The creative minds behind this enigmatic show are none other than Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the duo responsible for Netflix‘s previous cerebral success, Dark.
Despite the accolades and the pedigree of its creators, 1899 met an untimely end as Netflix decided to axe the show after just a single season.
The plot of 1899 centred around the enigmatic passengers aboard the steamship Kerberos, bound for New York.
Their journey took a dark turn when they stumbled upon their missing sister ship, setting off a chain of events that shifted the narrative from period drama horror to something entirely unexpected.

The finale of the hit series 1899 left audiences on the edge of their seats until the last moment, with a shocking conclusion that sparked a frenzy of speculation and theory crafting across Reddit.
Boasting an eclectic international cast, 1899 introduced viewers to Emily Beecham as Maura Henriette alongside Aneurin Barnard’s enigmatic Daniel Solace, esteemed actor Anton Lesser in the role of Henry Singleton.
Joining them were Andreas Pietschmann as Kerberos ship captain Eyk Larsen, Miguel Bernardeau, noted for Elite, as Angel, with Lucas Lynggaard Tnnesen from The Rain, Maciej Musia representing 1983, and Isabella Wei of Bridgerton fame amongst others, amplifying the global pull of the gripping drama.
The addictive mystery of 1899 drew parallels to the cult-favourite Lost, with fans flocking to Reddit to dissect its complex narrative. Fans revelled in how the show seemingly posed more tantalising questions with each answer provided, feeding the appetite for intrigue.
Regrettably, Netflix pulled the plug on the show due to insufficient viewership for a renewal.
The cancellation left fans distraught, especially considering the unresolved plotlines and the massive twist.
A campaign was launched in an attempt to rescue 1899, with fans pleading with Netflix, but unfortunately, it didn’t gather enough momentum.
However, 1899 remains accessible on the platform, and there’s also an exclusive behind-the-scenes feature on Netflix that explores how the drama’s panoramic shots were crafted.
