Honister Slate Mine has announced the launch of its brand-new Ghost Tours, an atmospheric underground experience that brings to life the haunting legends and true stories buried within the mountain’s tunnels.
Drawn from real historical events and tales passed down through generations of miners, the Ghost Tour offers an unforgettable journey by lantern light through Honister’s labyrinth of passages – where every echo, every drip and every cold breath of air tells a story.
Guests will hear of the Phantom Miner, forever tapping in the dark, the Lost Level that claimed more than a few souls and the Grey Lady of Fleetwith Pike, whose sorrow is said to linger in the shadows of the mine.
“This tour has been a long time coming,” said Prentice, owner of Honister Slate Mine “After years of hearing eerie stories from our miners, we realised there was a powerful opportunity to bring these tales together – to honour the people who worked and sometimes lost their lives, here in the mine and the surrounding landscape. ”
Running from October 22 to November, 1 2025, this limited-time experience offers something truly unique in the Lake District – an authentic, immersive ghost tour set in one of Britain’s most dramatic and historic landscapes.
