Intrepid Travel plans to restart trips to Jordan later this month following news that the UK Foreign Office has relaxed its travel advice for the destination.
In an update on Wednesday (June 3), the FCDO said it no longer advises against all but essential travel to Jordan. However, it does continue to advise against all travel within three kilometres of the border with Syria.
Zina Bencheikh, EMEA managing director for Intrepid Travel, said: “We’re delighted to see the FCDO relax its advice on travel to Jordan.
“Tourism plays a crucial role in supporting local communities and livelihoods, and this has been a challenging period for our local team and partners.
“Jordan has long been a favourite with our travellers, and we’re excited to restart our trips this month and welcome customers back to this amazing country.”
The FCDO also changed its travel advice for Israel and Palestine.
It said: “FCDO no longer advises against all travel to Israel and Palestine but continues to advise against all travel to Gaza, parts of the West Bank and parts of northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights.
“FCDO advises against all but essential travel to other parts of the West Bank.”
The Israeli tourism ministry in the UK said the change follows “the continued cessation of the war with Iran”.
Israel’s national airline, El Al, and Wizz Air are currently operating schedules between the UK and Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
In April, Israel’s tourism industry resumed activity across the country, with tourism sites, cultural attractions, and leisure destinations reopening to the public.
Michael Ben-Baruch, Israel Ministry of Tourism UK director, said: “There is no doubt that it’s been a challenging period for Israel’s tourism sector, and the recent conflict has created further disruption.
“However, we welcome the news today of the change in FCDO advice, which paves the way for a normalisation of tourism back to Israel from the UK this summer and beyond.”
