Natalie Taylor at Hays Travel shared a post on social media which expressed sympathy for those affected by Hurricane Melissa.

The storm is expected to reach land on Tuesday before heading diagonally across the island, entering near St Elizabeth parish in the south, bringing with it a life-threatening storm surge of up to 13 feet, and exiting around St Ann parish in the north.

It will be the strongest storm to hit the island since records began 174 years ago.

Natalie wrote on Monday evening: “My thoughts are with the beautiful island of Jamaica this evening and over the next few days, as a Category 5 hurricane heads towards the island,

“I’ve thankfully managed to rearrange all of my customers’ holidays — thank you all so much for your understanding and patience during this time.

“I truly hope this stunning island is spared the worst of what’s predicted. Please, everyone stay safe, and let’s keep our fingers crossed that Hurricane Melissa calms down soon.”

Landslides, fallen trees, and power outages have already been reported.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness said: “There is no infrastructure in the region that can withstand a category five.

“The question now is the speed of recovery. That’s the challenge.”
