Eligible disabled people across England will be able to travel by bus free of charge at any time of day from 1 April 2027.
The change will remove the weekday time restrictions currently applied to disabled concessionary bus passes, which are generally valid between 9.30am and 11pm. Some local authorities already fund travel outside these hours.
The Government said £60 million would be provided to introduce the change across England.
It means disabled bus pass holders will be able to travel free of charge before 9.30am, including for work, education, training and healthcare appointments.
Greater Manchester Combined Authority introduced all-day travel for disabled pass holders in March 2026.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham said:
“Buses are a lifeline for many people, making it easier to get to work, education and healthcare. It is not right that many disabled people cannot travel using their pass during certain times of the day.
“Disabled people will now have free bus travel at any time of day.”
