Family travel blogger dead after crash involving asphalt truck in Mexico

SALT LAKE CITY (KSTU) – Friends are remembering a 45-year-old Utah woman who was killed in a car crash while visiting Mexico for a wedding last week.

They remember Elise Caffee as a person who touched those she knew in real life and those who followed her blog Three Kids Travel.

“I first met Elise when I moved to Cottonwood Heights 20 years ago,” Georgia Anderson recalled.

Anderson can remember the first time she met Caffee, and the kindness she showed to her and everyone else.

“She was actually assigned in our church as my visiting teacher, and so she came over to visit me and with another woman,” Anderson added. “What I noticed immediately about Elise was that she didn’t take this as an assignment. She took this just as a true friendship.”

Caffee’s family posted on social media, sharing that she died on Wednesday evening after being treated in the burn unit at the University of Utah.

According to a verified GoFundMe, Caffee, her husband and their driver were hit by a truck filled with asphalt while driving in Cancun.

The truck fell on top of them, trapping Caffee and the driver inside, according to the account.

As the community deals with this tragedy, Caffee’s friends are coming together to be there for one another.

“You’ll see how I consider her to be one of my closest friends, but the beauty is so many people do,” Alecia Falk said. “She is genuine. She is as genuine as they get. She shows up for people in their highs and in their lows.”

Caffee wasn’t just known for her popular videos on social media, but also for her kind heart and giving nature, which will continue on.

The fundraiser from the family has raised more than $60,000, which they say will go to the family of the driver who was killed in Mexico.

“Go out, look for the one, serve the one, notice people in their trenches and show up for them, and that’s what she did,” Anderson said.

Caffee’s husband was not injured in the 10 car pileup. Now he is left to raise their three daughters.
