The government will introduce higher fees for emergency travel documents (ETDs) and emergency passports next Wednesday (April 9).
The new ETDs fee will be £125 – rising from the current rate of £100 – while the cost of an emergency passport will be £125, up from £75.
An ETD lets people travel back from abroad if they need to travel urgently and cannot use their British passport.
It is usually only valid for one single or return journey.
The new fee includes the cost of couriering the emergency travel document to the traveller. Previously, this was an additional separate cost.
Emergency passports are issued in exceptional circumstances, usually when an ETD cannot be issued.
The fees are in addition to direct costs, if there are any.
The last time fees were increased was in 2016.
The following day (April 10) will see an increase in normal UK passport application fees.
A standard online application made within the UK will rise from £88.50 to £94.50 for adults and from £57.50 to £61.50 for children.
