Best Destinations is preparing to open a second shop, with owner Jon Haworth aiming to run up to 10 in the next five years.

The new branch, set to open in the Lancashire town of Great Harwood in July, is expected to be the first step in growing the business from its original Accrington base.

“Hopefully we’ll have between five and 10 shops in the next five years,” said owner Jon Haworth, who launched the first branch in 2018.

The marketing of the new shop will be helped by £7,500 of support from Jet2holidays after the agency’s success in the tour operator’s inaugural Scale Up Your Street competition.

“I’ve wanted to open a second shop since February 2020, so it’s always been in the thought process,” said Haworth, who hopes to start welcoming customers to the Great Harwood store next month.

“It’s a town that doesn’t have another agency and it’s quite a bustling place,” he added, noting that he intends to recruit two additional staff members to serve the new shop as well as a further agent who works between the two.

There are two agents working in the existing store, with a homeworker also supporting the business.

About half of sales are Jet2holidays bookings, Haworth said, while cruise represents about 25%-30% of transactions.

Outlining hopes for the new branch, he said: “Whoever comes in, we will sell to them. The main thing is we get the customer service right, because then people keep coming back through word of mouth.”
