The BBC appears to be backing opera singer Wynne Evans, despite the latest scandal to come out of Strictly Come Dancing. The Welsh star has been reportedly battling to save his career after being axed from the UK live tour for making crude jokes to his co-stars.
Following his stint on the ballroom show, where he was paired with professional dancer Katya Jones, Wynne collaborated with Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page for a brand new BBC travel programme – All At Sea.
Pressure was on for the BBC to axe the show, after a PR expert shared that they may be forced to “cut ties” with the singer. However, according to the TV schedule, the broadcasters have chosen to keep the new show on air.
It began on Monday, January 27 and consists of six weekly episodes on BBC One – all of which are still in the upcoming schedule up to now.
Ahead of the show’s release, Wynne uploaded a promotional clip alongside fellow Welsh star Joanna Page on Sunday.
The Go Compare regular wrote: “Can’t wait for Wynne and Joanna All At Sea coming to BBC1 in January 2025. [Joanna Page] my favourite person ever.”
Wynne also shared a trailer for the new show to his Instagram Stories. It showed the co-stars laughing and joking as they explored the Welsh coastline.
The fallout comes after the BBC Wales presenter was allegedly heard referencing a threesome using the derogatory term “spit roast”.
Wynne has since issued an apology and told The Mail on Sunday: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”
BBC and Strictly Live producers added: “We have made it clear to Wynne we do not tolerate such behaviour on tour.”
Stepping down from the tour and his BBC radio show, Wynne has since said: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly live tour, as well as all my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.”
He also expressed deep regret for the distress his inappropriate behaviour caused, promising to use this period for introspection. He also apologised to those he would miss in the remaining shows and thanked his colleagues for their immense support.
Wynne & Joanna: All at Sea is a six-part series and will air on BBC One, BBC One Wales and BBC iPlayer on Mondays at 8.30pm.
