A stunning African destination is being tipped as the perfect place to visit in April, with experts calling it one of the most beautiful countries to explore at this time of year. The location offers sunshine, clear skies and daytime temperatures reaching 30C, without the crowds seen during the peak travel months. April brings green landscapes, crisp air and excellent conditions for photography and birdwatching.
Experts at Lonely Planet said that April and May are particularly special months to visit, describing the scenery as “vivid green” and the air as “exceptionally clear”. They add: “The rains have cleared the air of any dust and many believe that this is the most beautiful and best time to visit.” What’s more, according to the experts at Safari Bookings, average daytime temperatures in April sit between 25C and 30C, offering perfect conditions for those looking for warmth.
The destination is Namibia – a peaceful and often overlooked country in southern Africa that’s becoming more popular with travellers looking for adventure without the crowds.
Namibia is known for its deserts and dry landscapes, but April transforms it into a green paradise thanks to recent rains that wash away dust and refresh the scenery.
According to Discover Africa, April is much drier than previous months, and the atmosphere is ideal for stargazing and bird watching.
There’s no shortage of things to see and do. Sossusvlei, a famous salt and clay pan, is home to some of the highest sand dunes in the world, glowing orange in the desert sun.
Wildlife such as oryx and springbok are commonly spotted in the area, and the dry conditions make for stunning photo opportunities.
Another standout destination is the Skeleton Coast, known for its shipwrecks.
Further north, travellers can explore Damaraland, a region full of deep canyons and wide open plains.
Visitors can also meet the Damara people and learn about their way of life through local tours.
While large animals are harder to spot in April due to abundant food and water, birdwatching is at its best, with sightings of species such as the martial eagle, white-tailed shrike and Damara rock runner.
Despite being mostly desert, parts of Namibia even offer activities like windsurfing, and the dry, clear nights make it one of the best countries in the world for viewing the stars.
Experts at Expert Africa say April brings a “freshness in the air” and little rainfall, adding that it’s one of the loveliest months to travel.
