TUI, easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 passengers should take note of the latest travel advice and passport checks they need to make before heading to the airport

The summer holidays are in full swing, but with stats suggesting that over 350,000 Brits don’t have valid passports, checking your documents now could save you plenty of stress at the airport.

TUI recently issued a warning in which it urged Brits to check their documents because of new rules post-Brexit, but there are also plenty more rules and guidance to follow including when to arrive at the airport.

TUI, easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2 can have differing guidance so it’s always worth checking for your specific airline. Still, to give you a helping hand we’ve taken a look at some of the travel advice issued by the travel giants…

TUI

TUI has a wealth of information in its FAQs section for holidaymakers. This includes information around passport validity and how long you’ll need left on your passport when you check in.

It also offers a handy passport checker tool which it recommends all holidaymakers use before they fly. Simply enter the dates and destination of your holiday, then your passport information, and TUI will advise whether your passport is valid for travel. This is especially important for Brits carrying one of the older, burgundy passports which can fall foul of the 10 year rule.

Keep in mind that not all TUI package holidays fly with TUI’s own airline, so if you’re flying with a different airline you’ll need to adhere to their guidelines.

easyJet

Passengers on easyJet can check the latest travel information on its website. Recently, it highlighted that travel requirements for Gibraltar had changed, with Brits now needing to pass through EES border checks.

The airline also says: “Photographic ID is required on all domestic flights.”, so even if you’re flying within the UK you’ll need ID such as a passport, or a valid driving licence.”

It adds: “All customers travelling on international flights must hold either a valid EU/EEA/Swiss National Identity card or Passport, and, where required, a valid Visa. You must bring the physical Identity Card or Passport with you when travelling internationally, digital or app versions may not be accepted.

“Your passport needs to be in good condition and signed. UK passports issued after March 2020 may not be printed with a signature and anyone aged 12 and over must sign their passport to make sure it’s valid for travel. Some countries require that passports are valid for a minimum period beyond your trip, usually three or six months.”

Ryanair

Ryanair’s website clarifies: “Ryanair accepts only valid passports or National Identity Cards as travel ID, not driver’s licenses or birth certificates. Passengers must ensure their documents meet requirements.” This applies to both domestic and international flights.

It adds: “For security reasons, the first name and surname on your booking must match the names on your travel document(s). We do not require middle name or second/double-barrelled surnames for flights.”

Ryanair passengers can also enter their flight details onto the latest travel updates page, and see up to date information on their flight status.

Jet2

Jet2 has a page for the latest travel information which it suggests passengers check at least 12 hours before their flight for the most up to date information. It also suggests: “Before travelling to your destination, please check the latest entry requirements as they may differ depending on your: destination, nationality, and your travel document type.”

It adds: “We recommend that all travellers check the latest requirements before travelling, which can be found on the FCDO website.

The airline goes on to remind passengers of the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES), saying: “This means when you travel, you may go through a digital check on arrival and departure.

“There’s no cost and nothing you can do before you travel. There may be longer wait times than usual when you arrive in destination and before your flight back to the UK. We’re really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but unfortunately this is completely outside of our control.”
