A travel vlogger who has visited more than 50 countries has shared a list of travel packing tips for items people may not remember to pack when they go on holiday — and one airport security essential is an absolute “must-have”
A globetrotting vlogger who has explored more than 50 countries has revealed a “must-have” item that travellers should always include in their luggage. Mark Wolters, whose travel content on his YouTube channel Wolters World has gained widespread popularity, shared this essential tip in a recent upload focusing on commonly overlooked packing essentials.
In his video, entitled 6 Things People Never Think to Pack, But They Should, Mark outlined a selection of everyday items that might not immediately spring to mind, yet could prove invaluable during your travels.
Covering everything from cleaning wipes to plastic carrier bags, Mark presented six practical yet affordable items that travellers frequently overlook. Taking pride of place at number one was an item Mark deemed essential for navigating airport security smoothly.
Mark explained: “The first thing I want you to pack – I want you to throw these in your bag, whether it’s your checked bag, your carry-on, whatever – Ziploc bags. Get a gallon size, get a quart size, get a sandwich size.”
He continued: “Why? Well, if you have to do one of those 3-1-1, you know, liquid rules, you have the plastic bag, but also, if you have wet clothes or dirty, stinky clothes, you can throw them in there and it separates it from the rest of your clothing and your luggage, so they don’t stink, as well. So those Ziploc bags are a must-have. Believe me; it will pay off.”
Transparent, sealable plastic bags are commonly required at airports for transporting liquids, due to restrictions governing the quantity of liquids permitted in hand luggage, reports the Express.
The GOV website recommends placing liquids in hold luggage whenever feasible (these are the bags deposited at check-in prior to boarding). Understanding what qualifies as a liquid is equally crucial.
Liquids encompass all beverages, liquid and semi-liquid food items (including honey, jam, soup, etc.), cosmetics (such as lotions, perfumes, lip gloss and creams), sprays like shaving foam and deodorants, pastes, gels and contact lens solutions.
It’s essential to familiarise yourself with the regulations at your departure airport, as these may vary. Typically, however, the standard is that no liquids are allowed in containers exceeding 100ml (this applies even if the container is only partially filled).
Additionally, you may need to store your liquids in a clear, resealable plastic bag. The bag mustn’t exceed one litre in capacity and should measure approximately 20cm x 20cm.
Further regulations regarding plastic bags for liquids specify that the bag must be properly sealed with all items inside, it cannot be knotted at the opening, each passenger is limited to one plastic bag, and it must be presented during security checks.
