The Maldives has been named the Best Travel Destination Worldwide for 2026, according to the Global Travel Awards. The country is all about incredibly clear blue waters, white sand beaches, vibrant coral reefs, peaceful surroundings and unparalleled privacy.
There was a time when the Maldives felt out of reach for most Indian travellers. It was seen as a luxury reserved for celebrities and big honeymoon budgets. Most of the high-end travellers visit the country for its iconic resorts with overwater villas and private pools. But in the last few years, the island has opened its doors to budget and mid-range travellers as well. Over the years, local islands have introduced guesthouses and smaller hotels.
Destinations like Bali, Vietnam and Thailand have grown rapidly and offer great value. Yet, the Maldives continues to hold its charm. The reason is simple. It offers something very few places can – complete privacy. No crowds. No rush. Just quiet, open waters and personal space.

Finca Serena in Mallorca won Best Boutique Hotel 2026, while the Best Resort 2026 award went to The Fairmont Kenya Safari Club. Turkish Airlines was named Best Airline Worldwide.
