A new 2026 Travel Outlook Report from Agoda highlights the key trends expected to shape travel habits across Asia in the coming year. The findings show a growing interest in local adventures and lesser-known destinations, with food becoming an increasingly strong reason for travel across the region. The report, based on a survey of Asian travellers, notes that people are looking for better value and want to make each trip count. Shorter, more frequent holidays are gaining popularity, especially among families. New habits such as micro travel are on the rise, and many travellers now see AI as a practical tool for planning and inspiration. In India, the report points to a clear shift towards what it calls ‘inward wanderlust’. More travellers are choosing to explore hidden gems, cultural depth and meaningful experiences within the country.“While frictionless travel continues to fuel outbound ambitions, it’s clear that domestic exploration remains firmly on the minds of Indian travellers. Every corner of the country has something novel and exciting to offer, and this renewed curiosity is shaping a more meaningful and more intentional era of travel. This shift is supported by the rise of AI tools that make planning easier and more personalised than ever. India’s travellers are not just exploring more but they are exploring with deeper intention,” said Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands. The report also notes strong interest in relaxation, outdoor activities and cultural discovery. Travellers are focusing on value, preferring budget-smart stays, and many plan to take shorter holidays with family or partners. AI is also becoming a trusted companion, with a majority of Indians willing to use it for future travel planning.
