Northwest agency Garstang Travel has been sold to regional miniple Althams Travel for an undisclosed sum.

The news was confirmed by Garstang founder Nicole Eaves, who will leave the business she set up after 42 years at the helm following a transition period.

The agency will continue to trade as Garstang Travel under its new owners and its nine staff will remain in place. The acquisition brings the number of shops in Althams Travel’s portfolio to 34 branches across Lancashire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.

Eaves said: “I have had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented and committed individuals you could ever hope for.

“Their passion, work ethics and genuine care for our customers has been nothing short of inspiring. They are the true stars of the business, many of whom have been with me for decades.”

She added: “After 42 incredible years, it’s the right time to sell. I leave knowing the business is in great hands.

“I am excited we’re now part the Althams family, headed up by Sandra McAllister. Their focus on people and passion for travel means my great team and our wonderful clients will be in the very best hands.”

McAllister said: “We are thrilled to welcome Garstang Travel and Nicole’s fantastic team into the Althams family.

“Their outstanding reputation for customer care, personal service and community spirit aligns perfectly with our own values.”

“Nicole has built something truly special over the past 42 years, and we are honoured to continue her legacy.”

Eaves founded Garstang Travel in January 1984 and the agency went on to win several awards, including in the Travel Weekly Agent Achievement Awards.

She will retire after overseeing the transition of Garstang into the Althams business.

Althams Travel announced last year that it planned to open more shops and grow its homeworking division.
