Several roads were closed off as standing water began to increase, while rail services were left disrupted due to rails being underwater and winds causing issues with overhead lines.

In Streetly, there were reports of standing water on Chester Road, covering both lanes.

A message on the Streetly Community Group Facebook page said: “Substantial standing water on Chester Road outside Wheats, across both lanes, so going to cause problems as traffic builds.”

Meanwhile, a message on the Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay Chit Chat Facebook page said that Old Landywood Lane had been closed, with several messages saying that the road had looked very flooded at around 4.30am.

National Highways West Midlands put out a message to say what it was doing to help motorists as they hit the region’s roads.

A spokesman said: “Storm Claudia is here.

“Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15 will see heavy rainfall.

“We’re re-checking culverts, gullies and drains to help rainwater drain away and our traffic officers, inspectors & control rooms are monitoring conditions 24/7.”

“These warnings cover Wales, the Midlands and southern England.

“Please check your entire journey before you travel today and on Saturday.”
