Travel industry pioneer, Major Travel founder Mark Widdowson, has died aged 78.

He was seen as a visionary who recognised the power of the internet long before it became mainstream and was one of the first to embrace online flight sales.

London-based Major Travel, founded by Widdowson in 1974, evolved under his leadership to become one of the UK’s most respected and flight consolidators and tour operators.

“His entrepreneurial spirit, passion for travel, and unwavering commitment to innovation laid the foundation for everything Major Travel is today,” a company spokesperson said.

“We are deeply grateful for his legacy, which continues to inspire all of us.”
