One clever holidaymaker impressed social media users with the simple packing tip
Travel fans love a “smart” and “satisfying” packing hack that’s ideal for holidays. While there are lots of tips and tricks holidaymakers can use to make the most of the space in their suitcase, many people have just learned an “impressive” hack that’s so simple to use.
As demonstrated in a viral video shared on TikTok by blogger Silje Werner (@siljewerner), packing your suitcase the right way up can make all the difference. Instead of opening her case on its side, the savvy social media user packed her case vertically, which helped ensure her folded clothes remained compact as she stacked them into the case.
Once the stack started to pile up, she fastened the buckle to help keep everything in place. Finally, she added her cosmetic bags at the top, preventing the bags from getting squashed at the bottom of the suitcase.
The video received over 700,000 views and 1,000 comments. Many viewers loved the idea and couldn’t believe they hadn’t thought of it sooner. One such response read: “I need to start using my brain.”
A second fan of the tip asked: “Why am I seeing this the day I came back from vacation?” A third commenter said: “I just finished it with a lot of effort, why didn’t I see it earlier?”
A similar reply read: “Not me ready to unpack my suitcase I just packed to redo it this way to fit more stuff.” More praise read: “So smart.” Someone else wrote: “Not me ready to unpack my suitcase I just packed to redo it this way to fit more stuff.”
A happy viewer thought: “This really is genius.” A fan added: “Now that is impressive,” and Silje replied: “Thank you! It really helped me stay organised during my 2 weeks trip.”
Not everyone loved the idea, though. Many commenters said they preferred to use packing cubes to streamline their luggage. For example, someone who swears by the packing cube method replied: “Packing cubes keep everything organised.”
Another fan wrote: “I always use packing cubes — they’re much better. I also use rubber bands to secure them, so if they fall or I need to pack or repack, it’s really handy.”
A different comment said: “For people who have never heard of packing cubes and are too trusting of airport baggage handlers.” However, others said they preferred the viral method to using packing cubes.
“I like this method better than packing cubes. The cubes are just their shape, no space for moving things around,” wrote another viewer. Someone else with a similar opinion replied: “Packing cubes are terrible and bulky, this is the best method my mom has been doing it for years.”
