Both Stena Line and P&O Ferries have cancelled sailings from Belfast and Larne on Friday morning, while Strangford Lough ferries between Strangford and Portaferry are suspended until further notice.

A number of flights from Belfast City Airport have also been cancelled, including routes to Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester.

A yellow weather warning for wind is currently in place across eastern counties – Antrim, Armagh and Down – until 1pm on Friday.

The Met Office extended the warning yesterday, which was originally due to end at 11am.

Heavy rain with strong to gale force southerly winds are beginning to sweep in throughout the morning, with some turning locally severe around the east coast.

Drier and brighter conditions will be developing in the afternoon with a scattering of showers.

Stena Line has cancelled three sailings from Belfast to Cairnryan on Friday morning, while P&O Ferries has cancelled three from Larne to the Scottish port.

Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight directly with the airline before travelling to the airport.

Whilst the weather warning is in place, the Met Office also the strong winds could cause disruption to transport and infrastructure, with delays to road and rail transport air and ferry transport considered likely.

The public has been advised to check road updates or public transport timetables before leaving the house.

They warned that short-term loss of power is also possible for households.

Meanwhile, it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves

Travel could also be impacted with some bus and train services affected and some journeys taking longer.

A yellow weather warning for wind has also been issued for all counties on Sunday, starting at 3am and ending at 3pm, which may also cause some disruption.
